Subway Converting All Outlets to LEDs

Subway LEDS

The world’s largest submarine sandwich chain, with more than 39,000 locations, intends to convert all new and remodelled restaurants to LEDs. The move follows a pilot project in 2014 that saved 21.9 million kilowatt hours, enough to power almost 2,000 homes for a year.

In 2007, Subway began shifting all new and remodelled restaurants to high efficiency lighting and made LED exterior signage optional in 2008. In 2014 the chain began introducing interior LED lighting.

“From reducing water and waste to using energy-efficient equipment, our franchisees are deeply committed to finding new ways to make their stores more ‘green,'” says Elizabeth Stewart, who heads the Subway brand’s corporate social responsibility efforts.
