Espentech Plug-n-Play TLEDs

December 19, 2016

Espen Technology now offers dimmable plug-n-play TLEDs in 4’ 12W, 4’ 15W, 5’HO, and 6’HO options.

LED replacement for linear fluorescent lamps have been around for many years, but prices have dropped 75-80% since 2013, which has created good ROIs, and market penetration is growing. According to NEMA’s Linear Lamp Index, LED linear lamps (TLEDs) accounted for roughly 7% share of shipments, in the first quarter of 2016, and that is expected to rise quickly.

Now that TLEDs have become popular in the commercial markets, competition is increasing, and the industry leaders are differentiating with value-add features for their lamps. Five features that are growing in importance for TLEDs are:

• plug-n-play (operating on existing fluorescent ballasts)
• dimmable
• NSF-approved shatter-coated
• frosted, real-glass diffusion
• 5’ and 6’ HO options, for use in food areas and refrigeration

A sign that the TLED category is maturing is that it is now possible to find products with combinations of these features. The best example is the “Retrolux HE ArmorCoat” product line from Espen Technology, a leader in linear indoor retrofit products. This one product line combines plug-n-play, dimming, shatter-coating, frosted real glass, as well as 5’ and 6’ HO options.

According to John Clancy, VP of Sales at Espen, “By combining these high demand features, we’ve created a single lamp line that can be used throughout a facility with demanding applications.” Clancy adds, “We offer ArmorCoat dimmable plug-n-play TLEDs in 4’ 12W, 4’ 15W, 5’HO, and 6’HO options. Our customers love that they have NSF-approval, and frosted real glass diffusion.”

Clancy notes that it is important to clarify that these ArmorCoat Retrolux lamps are dimmable in two scenarios:

1. when the 12W and 15W 4’ lamps are paired to existing electronic ballasts listed as compatible on the Espen Technology website, or
2. when any of these lamps are paired with an Espen dimmable driver

Additional benefits of the Retroflex ArmorCoat T8 lamps include:

• DLC Listed
• 135 lpw
• 5-year Warranty
• No rewiring if operating on the existing fluorescent ballast
• UL listed
• No mercury, no UV
• 325 degree beam angle
• Instant On
• 50,000 hours rated life
