DLC Releases for Comment First Draft of Solid-State Lighting Technical Requirements V5.0

January 30, 2019

The Design Lights Consortium (DLC) has released the first draft of Solid-State Lighting Technical Requirements V5.0 for public comment through the DLC Stakeholder Input Process. Because of the comprehensive nature of V5.0 and the breadth of the topics covered, this first draft is a conceptual level specification.

Technical Requirements V5.0 will continue to accelerate broad scale energy savings by improving the quality of light and controllability of DLC listed products. V5.0 expands the benefits of LED lighting by encouraging the development of products that keep the customer in mind.

V5.0 has four goals:

  • differentiate lighting with a focus on health and wellness that can provide comfortable, safe environments for people
  • increase the adoption of lighting controls to better realize energy savings and enable improved quality of light
  • ensure persistent energy savings through increases in efficacy and enhanced user experience with DLC qualified lighting
  • make more product data available for lighting decision-makers

Deadline for comments on this first draft: March 12, 2019.

DLC aims to prepare a second draft, based on preliminary feedback, by June 2019, and a final version by January 1, 2020. Find out more: www.designlights.org/workplan/technical-requirements-v5-0/.
