Brienne Willcock Joins the Illuminating Engineering Society as Education Coordinator

EIN IES Willcock 400

June 24, 2019

Brienne Willcock assumed a new position with IES in May as an Education Coordinator. This new role will support in developing and maintaining IES education program activities, project management support, and outreach to support member engagement with IES education activities. Paired with Tom Butters, IES Director of Education, the IES has made a significant investment in lighting education.

Willcock is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University where she graduated with a dual bachelor’s of science degree in Art & Human Environments and Interior Design. Brienne has been a member of IES for over seven years and has an extensive volunteer history with the Society; from volunteering locally with the Detroit Section (President from 2013-2015), to participating (advisory member) on the Testing Procedures Committee, Distinguished Service Award Committee, Nominating Committee, and Annual Conference Committee Chair in 2016 and 2017.

In addition to Brienne’s formal degrees and history with IES, she also has accumulated numerous lighting industry achievements including Lighting Certified (LC) from the National Council on Qualifications for Lighting Professionals (NCQLP), receiving the IES Presidential Award in 2017, Volunteer of the Year in 2013 from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Detroit, and being named to Lighting Magazine’s International 40 under 40 in 2017.

“I am thrilled to welcome Brienne Willcock to IES. Brienne brings an immense passion for lighting education,” said Tom Butters, IES Director of Education. “With her forward-thinking concepts, skill set, and positive track record of driving successful IES events, she is the perfect addition to the education team. I truly look forward to working with Brienne as we increase the value of IES’ educational content, modalities and reach.”

“I feel very fortunate to be given the opportunity to work with Tom, Tim and the rest of IES staff,” said Brienne Willcock. “I’ve been so impressed with the progress in educational offerings, this next phase promises to be rewarding and challenging; and I’m looking forward to contributing to the continued success of the Society.”

“When I started with the IES just over three years ago, I had the pleasure of working closely with Brienne in her role as Annual Conference Committee Chair,” said Tim Licitra, IES Executive Director. “Never did I imagine that I would eventually have the privilege of working with her in this capacity. The improvements that Tom has made with regards to IES education have been remarkable, and now envisioning what will come next is even more exciting now that Brienne will be joining IES. The future of IES education is in great hands with this team.”
