LRC Releases Video Series on Light and Health
March 26, 2018
The Lighting Research Center (LRC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has released a series of short videos on the science of lighting for human health. The videos are now available on YouTube and on the LRC website.
“We created these videos to help viewers understand how light affects people,” says Dr. Mariana Figueiro, LRC Director.
A total of nine videos are planned for release this year, covering topics such as how to provide healthy lighting for office workers, lighting in schools, and the future of circadian lighting. Three are now available:
- Circadian Rhythms — a brief overview of human circadian rhythms, why they’re important, and the need for staying entrained with lighting
- Circadian Stimulus — a brief overview of circadian stimulus (CS), a metric developed at the LRC to quantify the extent to which lighting impacts the human circadian system
- Circadian Stimulus Calculator — how to use the LRC’s circadian stimulus calculator, which quantifies CS provided by one or more light sources
The videos were produced with funding from the Light and Health Alliance, which includes Acuity Brands; Cree; Current, powered by GE; Ketra; OSRAM; Philips Lighting; and USAI Lighting.
