A Tribute to Our Leaders and to Our Industry
How many times did you hear or thought that you were seeing the light at the end of the tunnel these last six months? Probably every day! Some of us had really important challenges and I thought it would be interesting to listen to them again. Also, read about important projects in city lighting and how lighting could enhance safety and enrich beauty. In the Pentagon Memorial lighting project, we could see how lighting is also about respect. Good reading!

By Line Goyette
Six years ago in February 2015, I interviewed David Nathaniel and called the profile I wrote “A Talent for Being There at the Right Time.” We met again this past February, this time virtually (without a cup of his wonderful expresso coffee). What follows is a summary of our conversation — “A Talent for Still Being There at the Right Time — Part 2.” My first question to David was, what has happened in those six years? “Everything,” he said, and he started to laugh. “Obviously, we faced a lot of disruption from LED technology. It has greatly impacted the lamp business. Most competitors from back then have exited the business today.

What were the most important moments?” If I were to sum up his answer in three words, I would say automation, connectivity and sustainable innovation. Here’s what Martin told me.

Lighting Upgrade Enhances Safety and Enriches Beauty of 9/11 Pentagon Memorial
The National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial is dedicated to the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Adjacent to the Pentagon, the two-acre Memorial Park is a powerful tribute. Each of the lives lost on American Airlines Flight 77, and military and civilian personnel inside the Pentagon is represented with a bench. The benches seem to rise from individual rectangular pools under each one, and with trees interspersed amongst them throughout the park, it makes for a fittingly calming environment.
