Cree’s XHP35 Family: a New Performance Standard for High Power LEDs

Product Focus Cree

Cree, Inc.’s new XLamp XHP35 family of LEDs offers 50% more light output than Cree’s previous highest-performing single-die LED, setting a new performance standard for the 3.5mm footprint. Built on Cree’s SC5 Technology platform, the XHP35 LED introduces Cree’s breakthrough high-voltage power die architecture, empowering manufacturers to unleash the full capacity of extreme high power LEDs using existing drivers. The new XHP35 LED delivers up to 1,833 lumens without the optical inefficiencies of a multi-die LED to enable new designs with reduced size and lower system costs.

Unlike other existing high power LEDs, the XHP35 family of LEDs uses a new 12V monolithic power die to deliver extreme high power performance at drive currents at or less than 1A, making the use of high power LEDs more accessible for lighting designers. This breakthrough is uniquely enabled by Cree’s SC5 Technology Platform built on Cree’s industry-leading silicon carbide technology and features significant advancements in epitaxial structure, chip architecture and an advanced light conversion system optimized for best thermal and optical performance.

The XHP35 LEDs are available in high density and high intensity versions that are optimized to deliver the maximum performance for specific applications. The XHP35 High Density LED delivers new levels of light output in the compact XP footprint for high lumen applications, such as outdoor and high bay lighting. The XHP35 High Intensity LED is optimized to deliver maximum candela through secondary optics to boost performance and reduce size for applications requiring high light intensity, such as stadium, torch and track lighting.

Samples of both XLamp XHP35 and XHP35 High Intensity LEDs are available now, and production quantities are available with standard lead times. The XHP35 LEDs are available in 70, 80 and 90 CRI and colour temperatures ranging from 2700K to 8300K with 2-step and 3-step EasyWhite options.

Intense Lighting, Inc.’s new MX Downlight series features three configurations: 3.5-inch small aperture LED downlight, adjustable and wall wash luminaires. The complete MX Downlight series is available in integrated LED and MR16 lamp configurations. Combining a designer look with superior energy saving functionality, the MX Downlight series is a dynamic solution for a variety of retail, commercial, hospitality and residential lighting environments.

The unifying trait among the complete MX Downlight series is its flexible and highly efficient light module that delivers lumen packages from 650 lumens (lm) to 1200lm, up to 80 lumens per watt. Ensuring fixture-to-fixture colour uniformity, the MX product line utilizes Two-Step MacAdam Ellipse binning to ensure colour consistency from 2700K through 4100K in either 82CRI or 92CRI.
Featuring a custom proprietary TIR optical system ranging from a 12 degree spot to 50 degree wide flood, the MX Downlight and Adjustable luminaires obtain superior beam control, efficiency, and a tight centre beam delivering more than 12,000 centre beam candlepower (CBCP). Additionally, the luminaires precisely deliver light where needed, such as the MX Adjustable’s 35 degree hot vertical adjustment and 360 degree horizontal gear rotation with locking, and the MX Wall Wash luminaire’s exceptional uniform vertical illumination with a one-to-one spacing ratio.

Like the other products in the MX Family, the MX Downlight series features a Quick Ship Frame-In design, allowing the light module and trim to be ordered and shipped independently from the housing, and comes equipped with quick connects for an easy plug-and-play installation. Offering a wide collection of architectural grade die-casted aluminum trims, the devices are available in round and square configurations with either trim or trimless options.

Delivering smooth and flicker free illumination, the MX products offer a variety of dimming and control options, including 0.1 percent Dim to Dark. The products’ field-changeable trims, optics, drivers, mechanisms, light engines and accessories allow for easy in-field modification.

Lumileds’ Luxeon CoB Core Range: Breakthrough Performance Upgrade
Product Focus Lumileds

Lumileds’ next generation LUXEON CoB Core Range now delivers an average of 10% higher efficacy and 10% higher flux with a lower voltage and the same footprint, making it especially attractive to lighting designers.

“We are seeing tremendous demand in the retail and hospitality markets, where our award-winning CrispWhite Technology really shines. These applications require not just the best quality of light, but the cost effectiveness that goes with an LED solution with up to 150 lm/W efficacy,” says Eric Senders, LUXEON CoB Product Family Director.

For example, designers who implemented the LUXEON CoB 1208, which has a light-emitting surface (LES) of 15 mm, are upgrading lumen output from 3,600 to 4,000 lumens with a 10% higher efficiency. Alternatively, if the same output is maintained, efficacy can be boosted from 115 lm/W to 140 lm/W with the Gen 2 LEDs.

Lumileds is offering the LUXEON CoB Core Range (Gen 2) LEDs in multiple lumen packages from less than 1,000 lumens for MR16 and PAR lamps, up to 7,600 lumens for 100W CDM replacements. Colour options include the popular 2,200K for a candlelight ambiance and very efficient 90 CRI parts for high quality of light.

For ease of upgrade, the LUXEON CoB Core Range (Gen 2) products are fully compatible with Lumileds first generation of CoBs. The company’s ecosystem of compatible drivers, optics and holders help speed the time-to-market of all directional lamps.
