Part 1. RGB LED Light Colour

The RGB colour model is based on the combination of three primary colours: Red, Green, and Blue. The brightness of each colour is typically represented by a value between 0 and 255, allowing for 256 different levels of intensity per colour. It means that the RGB model can generate approximately 16.7 million colours (256 x 256 x 256 = 16,777,216).

RGB LED lighting enables you to adjust both the colour and intensity via remote control or an app, giving you the flexibility to select the most suitable lighting colour for your main space.

The tone, hue, and shade can trigger specific emotional responses. Thus, each colour creates a different human response. For example, people might feel cozy, warm, and calm in a soft white environment while getting a vibrant and fresh feeling in a cool white environment, especially if the spectrum is close to natural daylight.

Here are the different colours you can find with LED lighting and the natural human reactions and emotions that come with the ambient mood.

RGB LED Light Colour MoodsHuman Reaction to the LED Colours
Red Light ColoursPassion, love, and strength are directly associated with this LED light colour. It can also lead to anger, urgency, or hatred when the emotional reactions spiral out of control. It even speaks to potentially dangerous situations, initiating the body’s natural fight-or-flight mechanism.
Yellow Light ColoursYellow LED lighting invites happiness, friendliness, and warmth. It can stimulate one’s creative energy while still offering a note of caution.
Orange Light ColoursThis colour inspires confidence. People feel innovative when surrounded by this light, which supports more vibrance and feelings of wellness.
Green Light ColoursPeaceful feelings grow with this LED light colour. It’s sometimes associated with financial success, but the goal is to grow in your own unique way. It speaks for freshness and quality.
Blue Light ColoursThis colour speaks of trust. People feel stable and intelligent when in this environment, filled with emotions linked to integrity, loyalty, and dependability.
Purple Light ColoursPurple LED lighting is associated with ambition, wisdom, and success. It’s an imaginative hue that delivers historical correlations with royalty, fashion, and luxury. It’s a great choice for anyone who wants to tap into the creative centers of their mind.

These reactions make it easier to determine where to place LED colours in homes and businesses. Since this lighting option adds layers of depth to the ambient environment, you can decide how to approach the temperature based on what you want to accomplish in each space.

Part 2. Wavelength for LED Light Colours

LED lights come in several different colours. Although different shades of white, yellow, and amber tend to be used for the home, you can also find them in green, blue, and red. Each LED colour comes with a different wavelength and efficacy rating. Here’s a colour wavelength chart for you to check.

ColourWavelength (NM)Efficacy (LM/W)Efficacy (W/W)
Red620 to 645720.39
Green520 to 550930.15
Blue460 to 490370.35
Cyan490 to 520750.26
Orange610 to 620980.29

Even though two LED lights might have the same colour, the temperature differences between the two can cause them to appear as different tones. That’s why one might appear yellow, another could be orange, and a third red.

Part 3. White LED Light Colours

White LED light is a perfect choice for commercial and residential buildings. Among the most popular options in the market are warm white, day white, and cool white. Read on to find the difference between them:

3.1 Warm White

LED lighting with a warm white colour can create a sense of relaxation and comfort. It emits a soft, yellowish glow with a colour temperature of 2000K to 3000K, making it a popular choice for living rooms, bedrooms, and dining rooms where a cozy, welcoming atmosphere is essential.

Warm white lighting is ideal for businesses in hospitality spaces, such as hotels, restaurants, and lounges, where creating a home-like feel enhances customer satisfaction.

3.2 Day White

LED lighting in day white colour provides a brighter and more intense illumination. It produces a more natural white light with a range of 3000K to 4000K, which is ideal for enhancing visibility and showcasing details. It is a perfect option for photo studios, retail malls, workplaces, or food service establishments.

3.3 Cool White

LED lighting in a cool white colour closely mimics natural daylight, delivering a bright and energetic ambiance that fosters focus and productivity. It falls in the colour temperature range from 4000K to 10000K, making it a great choice for home office and workplace. Besides, cool white can reduce eye strain and create a clean, modern aesthetic, contributing to a comfortable work environment.

Most homes will want to avoid cool LED lights because the temperature spectrum can potentially interfere with a person’s resting cycles. When rooms feature warmer tones that trend toward soft hues that mimic sunlight, it’s much easier to wind down in that space.

To stay productive, consider using LED lighting with a Kelvin rating closer to natural daylight.

Bonus Tip: Choose the Right LED lighting

Once you’ve decided on the colour and temperature for the LED lights you need, it helps to count the bulbs that need to be replaced. Each bulb should have a marking that tells you the voltage, wattage, and base. You can take this information to purchase replacement LED lights that fit in that spectrum.

After you’ve got that list, you can search for the colour, brightness, and output ratings you prefer. Then start calculating the environmental and financial savings so that you can see how many dividends your investment can deliver over the product’s lifespan.
