Lumière Festival Vancouver: December 11-12
Dec 8 2015
For two nights in darkest December, local and international artists will reinterpret light through interactive, colourful and magical installations in parks, streets and on buildings in Vancouver, BC’s West End. In addition to lighting installations, visitors will find free trolley service, horse-drawn carriage rides and entertainment on commercial streets.
Behind this second annual light-filled celebration on December 11 and 12 are three community organizations: Lumiere Festival Society Vancouver, the West End Business Improvement Association, and the Vancouver Pride Society.
The orca whale installation, contributed by MK Illumination, was made by hand in Slovakia specifically for English Bay in recognition to the whales in the waters around Vancouver. The white powder-coated frame is 7m long by 2.5m high and contains over 6000 LED white bulbs. It’s energy usage is only 177 watts and 36v.
